思科微软为IP统一通讯竞争

Microsoft is pushing hard to gain a foothold in the enterprise IT VoIP market, but Cisco's CEO John Chambers says his company is ready for a throw down. At the Cisco Partner Summit going in Las Vegas, Chambers laid down the smack:
"Microsoft has given us a three-year lead. And we've never lost a game when we've had a three-year lead... It's a battle we fully intend to win."
With Cisco's huge lead in the market, a deal with Apple over the iPhone, and domination of corporate IT's networking infrastructure, Microsoft is in for a tough fight.
Although the Cisco unified messaging system, Unity, runs with Exchange, Cisco has no intentions of rolling over and delivering this lucrative market to the software giant. IT managers are focusing on VoIP because it allows them much more flexibility in their voice communications, but the biggest draw of VoIP comes in the form of potential cost reductions; any time there is a possibility to save a lot of money, there is a chance for companies like Cisco or Microsoft to cash in.
Microsoft is looking for VoIP functionality integrated across its product line to maintain its market share, while bringing in additional revenue by adding collaboration and voice communications to the mix. The two companies are also locked in a battle over the web collaboration market, with both Cisco and Microsoft having acquired the number one and two market leaders respectively.
