The PBX market saw record penetration of IP lines in the first quarter of 2007, according to quarterly research from Dell'Oro Group. Shipments of IP lines grew an impressive 40 percent in the first quarter of 2007 over the prior year period. Three vendors -- Avaya, Cisco, and Nortel -- were responsible for more than half of the IP line shipment revenues.

“IP Lines and IP Phones help enterprises lay the groundwork for advanced features and applications, such as Unified Communications,” commented Alan Weckel, Analyst of IP Telephony Enterprise Research at Dell’Oro Group. “Enterprises are taking advantage of their converged voice and data network to integrate applications, and vendors are finding additional opportunities to offer software and services as part of their offerings to meet this demand,” Weckel added.
Dell'Oro Group also reported that traditional PBX and Traditional Key revenues declined for the seventh straight quarter, as these vendors further shift their R&D and sales focus towards IP.
