Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ) and Hitachi Ltd. (HIT) extended through 2008 their original equipment manufacturer agreement for the foundation hardware used to develop the HP StorageWorks Disk Array XP product line.
Financial terms of the "multi-billion-dollar" collaboration weren't disclosed.
In a press release Wednesday, the companies said they originally signed the resale agreement in May 1999.
Designed for enterprise-class data centers, HP StorageWorks XP combines Hitachi's disk array technology with HP software, systems and services.
In its largest product rollout to date, Hewlett-Packard this week introduced 158 consumer-electronics gadgets, including printers, digital cameras and scanners. The technology giant also launched a $300-million marketing and advertising campaign.
Hewlett-Packard's shares closed Tuesday at $20.95, up 99 cents, or 5%, on the New York Stock Exchange.
American depositary shares of Tokyo-based electronics company Hitachi closed at $43.20, up 35 cents, or 0.8%, also on the Big Board.
