Lenovo, the world's 3rd largest PC vendor, will bring together technology leaders from various industries around the region for a one-day conference alongside GITEX Dubai 2006, which will be addressed by Bill Amelio, Lenovo's CEO, during his first visit to the Middle East.
In a statement released just a few days before his first visit to the Middle East, scheduled to take place during GITEX Dubai 2006, Amelio highlighted the company's focus on global emerging markets in general, and this region in particular.
The current growth of the region's different economic sectors, boosted by a new realism in the stock market, is a key indicator of the opportunities for international businesses and foreign investment, says William Amelio, CEO, Lenovo Group Ltd, the world's 3rd largest PC vendor.
Amelio's visit to Dubai on November 19th will start with his keynote address at the Lenovo Middle East CIO Conference at the Fairmont Dubai, followed by a series of meetings with customers and partners.
The investments in development projects are boosting the economy and creating opportunities for employment and driving the tourism sector. This is putting the Middle East region in the limelight on the global map and hence driving greater competition within the various industries.
'Over 200 million people in a region that is young, dynamic and emerging quickly as a key telecommunications and technology market means that Lenovo is focusing on the Middle East as an important and fast-growing market,' Amelio said. 'Such growth is also driving the technology sector, and means there is hardly any room for small players. It is for this reason that we have placed so much emphasis on the region in our work. We have chosen to rollout the new Lenovo brand in this region before most other world markets. Our focus on this important market is an enduring commitment.'
'Each industry sector has unique technology requirements that drive the business. These are defined by a number of factors including the nature of the business, the size of the organisation and applications in place,' said Imtiaz Ghani, general manager, Lenovo, Middle East, Egypt & Pakistan. 'Lenovo delivers the best engineered PCs, uniquely capable of serving specific business needs. Embracing a culture of performance, Lenovo is committed to innovation beyond the machine, innovation that can build a business and become an asset to the organisation.'
The Lenovo Middle East CIO Conference will take place on Sunday, 19th November with a keynote by Bill Amelio, Lenovo's CEO. This will be followed by sessions relevant to key vertical industries such as finance, education, aviation, oil & gas, telecommunication and healthcare. Each session will tackle the trends within each industry, globally and within the region.
Chief information officers from around the region will also be invited to discover how they can use the capabilities of the ThinkVantage technologies to add real value to their business.
'ThinkVantage Technologies help our customers become more competitive and on demand by delivering industry-leading capabilities that improve productivity and reduce cost. These tools help make ThinkPad/ThinkCentre personal computers less dependent on IT staff or user intervention for basic tasks like deployment, backup, security and more - freeing both users and IT staff to focus on business success,' Ghani added.
Prior to taking on his role at Lenovo, Amelio was Senior Vice President of Dell Inc. and President, Asia-Pacific and Japan, before which he served in senior executive and operating positions at NCR Corp., Honeywell International Inc., AlliedSignal Inc. and IBM, including General Manager of Worldwide Operations for IBM's Personal Computing Division.
