Despite widespread views to the contrary, enterprise businesses will likely become a hot market for IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) services, reports In-Stat. IMS has the potential to generate more than US$15 billion annually by 2010 for U.S. carriers, the high-tech market research firm says.
"IMS provides enterprises with the means of accommodating secure data transmittal and communication between remote workers, outsourced third-party vendors and trusted corporate partners," said Keith Nissen, In-Stat analyst. "Carriers can use IMS-based network applications and services to become more than just suppliers of enterprise transport facilities."
Recent research by In-Stat found the following:
-- The integration of IMS-based network capabilities into enterprise operations (internal processes such as order entry, CRM, etc.) will also increase corporate reliance on network services.
-- Enterprises will be able to use the resilient IMS network architecture to access highly survivable data centers and eliminate the need for expensive, dedicated stand-by systems/network facilities.
-- More than 45% of respondents to an In-Stat survey indicated they would consider re-engineering internal processes to take advantage of IMS-based network services with lower-cost business continuity capabilities.
